How is jetta in snow
Tires makes a HUGE difference. Winter tires not alseasons and you WILL tell the difference. Worth the money. The cost of sitting in a ditch or crashing one time pays for the extra rims and tires no matter the car. I have don't glaze ice, thick snow and mud and this car was passing most other cars. The glaze ice I had a trailer and it was accross SD with a cross wind. I was passing many 4X4's in the ditch and I had no issues. If you are really concerned with getting stuck I had a pregnant wife in winter -look into Spikes-Spider.
You can install in seconds if you have your partner on one side and you on the other you can install in 30 seconds. I have used them twice and it was pulling a trailer from a dead stop up a snow covered hill. Almost as fast pulling off you have to pull off, drive forward and then pick up. I had a truck coming behind me and he didn't even know I was breifly stuck. And I didn't have the snow tires on as when I left for the trip it was clear and dry-way home interstate was opening just in front of each check point.
You loose your momentom from it kicking in. Keeps you on the road so much better. Like when you go the the passing lane and there is the center slush-it prevents you from spinning circles there. For those of you wondering-No I haven't been in the ditch, haven't had to be towwed, and haven't crashed into anything-yet. Yes, forgot the Frost heater helps. I am not a huge fan on the heated seats on the MKIV gen car as by the time I feel the heat the car is warm and the frost heater helps with that.
But it has been nice at times-just not a deal breaker. Also, don't know what part of MN you have that allows tire chains but I grew up there and my family is still there and they don't even sell them there.
You have to get out of state or the net. Maybe up north the rules are different though. Bringing a good point of checking the rules before buying certain tires spikes.
DieselOx Veteran Member. Had the Golf through 4? They can handle tire cables and the tire chains from Spikes Spiders. Not normal chains. Lots of helpful info.
I have a Chevy 4x4 truck and an older jeep wrangle so I have great unstoppable options for the snow. It is just that sometimes you can get stuck on the road in a blizzard and I'd like to know how it will perform. Sounds like the right set of all seasons will be the ticket for me. I'll solicit recommendations in another post. IMHO all seasons are good at nothing. Get summer tires and winter tires. The High Beam Control on the crisp and powerful LED headlights will make sure yourself and others can see through that winter blizzard by automatically brightening your headlights at certain speeds and dimming them when oncoming traffic passes.
